FOCUS ONE - GROUP COACHING
Introducing BSG’s Group Coaching Programme.
We are proud to be partnering with the Clarity Hub to bring members a brand-new group coaching programme.
This programme is designed to support member development and professional growth. Working with the team at the Clarity Hub, we will be identifying and recruiting members to participate in a focused coaching initiative, with an emphasis on cultivating critical skills and competencies aligned with the evolving needs of the future workforce.
The Clarity Hub will provide high-quality coaching to up to 40 BSG members (up to 10 members per group), at four critical stages in their careers. These include pathways to Greater Career Satisfaction, New Professional Role, Back to Work & Retirement.

Benefits of the Programme:
- Regular 90-minute group coaching sessions online via Teams
- Workbooks and reflective exercises between sessions
- Tools to identify values, strengths, and purpose
- Real-time peer feedback and supportive accountability
- Led by experienced coaches
- WhatsApp groups to offer support between sessions

FOCUS TWO - INTRODUCTION TO COACHING SKILLS
The Introduction to Coaching Skills workshop, delivered in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Coaches took place virtually
on the 19th of November 2025.
This interactive half-day session was designed to help BSG members strengthen their listening, questioning, and rapport-building abilities—skills that can transform everyday conversations with patients and colleagues. Through practical exercises, live demonstrations, and guided reflection, participants explored the foundations of coaching: what it is, how it works, and why it matters. Read the feedback to the workshop below!
Introduction to Coaching Skills Feedback
"Excellent intro to coaching"
Time to think about ways of doing things differently and the importance of listening and controlling your advice monster. Really thought provoking to reflect on my own behaviours and to empower me with tools going forward.
"Really insightful & helpful"
I felt it was all relevant and built a lot of knowledge in a short period of time. Great balance between didactic and practice. I would be interested in doing the next stage of coaching mentioned.
"Well organised and interactive"
Good balance of teaching and participation. The Small group format worked very nicely. All done in a very safe and supportive way that encouraged participation.
Workstream Lead
Dr John McGoran
I have practised as a consultant gastroenterologist in Derry/Londonderry since October 2020, having trained in the UK, including a clinical research fellowship with a focus on upper GI disorders and therapeutic endoscopy. Throughout my career I have had a keen interest in the workplace environment and professional experience.
In 2017 I completed a medical education MSc focusing on career transition and continue to foster an interest in that aspect of professional life as a gastroenterologist and specifically as TPD for gastroenterology in Northern Ireland. I hope that Project90 can be a means through which the BSG supports members going through changes in their careers.
