Project 90 - Career Support

As we approach the British Society of Gastroenterology’s 90th anniversary in 2027, we are proud to introduce two new initiatives to support members throughout their careers and reflects BSG’s ongoing commitment to improving recruitment, retention, and career satisfaction across the gastroenterology sector.

In collaboration with The Clarity Hub, we are introducing a new Group Coaching Programme, designed to support member development and professional growth. These include identifying and recruiting members to participate in a focused coaching initiative, with an emphasis on cultivating critical skills and competencies aligned with the evolving needs of the future workforce. We aim to provide high-quality coaching to up to 40 BSG members, at four critical stages in their careers: Pathways Back to Work, Pathways to Retirement, Pathways to a New Professional Role & Pathways to Greater Work Satisfaction.

Find out about Group Coaching

Group coaching is a format where coaches work with a small group of individuals with a common goal or focus, to help them achieve personal or professional growth. Find out more about the BSG Group Coaching Sessions in this video.

Introduction to Coaching Skills - The BSG is partnering with the Faculty of Medical Coaches to provide its members with a half day virtual workshop on 19 November 2025. Enhance your listening skills and discover how to make conversations with patients and colleagues more effective and productive.

Workstream Lead
Dr John McGoran
I have practised as a consultant gastroenterologist in Derry/Londonderry since October 2020, having trained in the UK, including a clinical research fellowship with a focus on upper GI disorders and therapeutic endoscopy. Throughout my career I have had a keen interest in the workplace environment and professional experience. In 2017 I completed a medical education MSc focusing on career transition and continue to foster an interest in that aspect of professional life as a gastroenterologist and specifically as TPD for gastroenterology in Northern Ireland. I hope that Project90 can be a means through which the BSG supports members going through changes in their careers.
