Project 90 - Career Support

As we approach the British Society of Gastroenterology’s 90th anniversary in 2027, we are proud to introduce a new Group Coaching Programme designed to support member development and professional growth.

As we approach the British Society of Gastroenterology’s 90th anniversary in 2027, we are proud to introduce a new Group Coaching Programme designed to support member development and professional growth. This initiative will help identify individual potential while laying strong foundations for a more engaged, skilled, and motivated workforce. It reflects BSG’s ongoing commitment to improving recruitment, retention, and career satisfaction across the gastroenterology sector.

In collaboration with The Clarity Hub, we are developing a structured, high-impact approach to deliver this important workstream. Key aims of the programme include:

  • Identifying and recruiting members to participate in a focused coaching programme

  • Emphasising critical skills and competencies aligned with future workforce needs

  • Providing high-quality coaching to up to 40 BSG members

  • Demonstrating BSG’s long-term commitment to supporting members at every stage of their career

  • Strengthening BSG’s position as a leading voice in workforce development and innovation

WORKSTREAM LEAD: Dr John McGoran

I have practised as a consultant gastroenterologist in Derry/Londonderry since October 2020, having trained in the UK, including a clinical research fellowship with a focus on upper GI disorders and therapeutic endoscopy. Throughout my career I have had a keen interest in the workplace environment and professional experience.

In 2017 I completed a medical education MSc focusing on career transition and continue to foster an interest in that aspect of professional life as a gastroenterologist and specifically as TPD for gastroenterology in Northern Ireland. I hope that Project90 can be a means through which the BSG supports members going through changes in their careers.
