Nurses Update - May 2025
Whats Coming Up for BSG Nurses in May 2025
Leigh Donnelly, BSG Nursing Committee Chair.
Greetings from your BSG Nurses’ Section. Read on for updates on some of the exciting opportunities for nurses happening this Spring.
Did you know that the BSG is preparing to celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2027? To commemorate this milestone, we are enhancing membership support in the lead-up to the big day, recognising both the profession and our valued members. Our goal is to reignite members’ passion for gastroenterology by expanding membership benefits.
A key focus of this ‘Project 90’ initiative is the Nurse Education program, designed to empower and support healthcare professionals involved in gastroenterology care, including nurses, healthcare support workers, and managers. This program will span various settings, including hospital wards, outpatient clinics, theatres, and critical care units. The aim is to equip the workforce with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, patient-centred, and safe care.
Following feedback from a BSG listening exercise, we will introduce free, accredited, self-paced, and interactive e-learning modules to provide accessible and flexible learning opportunities for all staff involved in gastroenterology care. Look out for more information soon.
To keep up to date with latest education updates, do check out the BSG web education library with videos and written articles on topics from oesophageal to colorectal issues, as well as a number of nursing specific topics, including pre-assessment in endoscopy, developing your nursing career and more.
Please also take the time to carefully read and familiarise yourself with the recently published updated 2025 IBD Surveillance Guidelines.
And don’t forget that registration for BSG LIVE’25 is OPEN! Visit the website to find out more and register. This year’s event will feature numerous sessions tailored to nursing members, covering topics such as Human Factors in Endoscopy, Nutrition and Gut Health, and a Q&A session with the BSG Nurses Committee.
In addition to a comprehensive programme, EndoVillage will be back—bigger than ever—with more interactive stations. Attendees will also have plenty of opportunities to network, culminating in a social event on Wednesday.
And lastly, we have two other exciting events coming up:
BSG Webinar: A Balancing Act – Making Alternative Career Pathways Work
This webinar is designed for healthcare professionals interested in exploring and sustaining alternative or non-linear career pathways within or alongside their clinical careers. Through the experiences of two inspiring speakers, we will explore how clinicians can successfully navigate diverse professional journeys while maintaining their core identity as medical professionals.
Finally, please save the date for the National Clinical Endoscopists Conference on the 10th November in Birmingham. More information coming soon!
