Launch of new resource kit for members - making the case for clinical research
The RCP has launched a new resource kit for physicians: ‘Making the case for research’.
The kit is designed to help consultants and resident doctors make the case for why they should be able to undertake research and help them understand what they can do to get more involved.
The resource kit:
- helps physicians to make the case for research time in meetings where job plans or training programmes are discussed
- sets out what the RCP is doing to campaign for research for all
- compiles a number of resources that can help physicians get more involved in research
Clinical research is central to better patient outcomes and experience, increased productivity in the NHS, and better job satisfaction for doctors, yet feedback from RCP members and fellows consistently show that a lack of time in job plans is the biggest barrier to undertaking research. The RCP believes that all doctors should have the opportunity for protected time in their job plans or training programmes to undertake research and we hope this resource kit will help them to do so.
