Six teams from across the UK will present the results of their Green Gastroenterology Challenge projects at an online Showcase on Wednesday 4 November 2026, 14:00-16:25 GMT and you can take part by registering now.
This Challenge is a national programme led by CSH, sponsored by Micro-Tech UK and delivered in partnership with the British Society of Gastroenterology. Since the Spring 2026, each team has been mentored by CSH to develop, run and measure a Sustainable Quality Improvement (SusQI) project, using the triple bottom line of sustainable value: reducing environmental harm, reducing financial waste, and adding clinical and social value.
At the Showcase, the teams will present their projects and outcomes to a judging panel and a live audience. The projects are:
- Reducing unnecessary liver function testing: North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust
- Reducing Entonox use in colonoscopy: NHS Highland and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- Reducing the rate of failed lower GI procedures: Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
- Biodegradable stents in ERCP: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, NHS Grampian
- Moving IBD patients from intravenous biologics to home subcutaneous injections: Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- Swapping Entonox for Penthrox in colonoscopy: Practice Plus Group
The afternoon closes with an awards ceremony, where the judging panel will announce the top team.
There was a lot of interest in the Challenge and we're sure that the entries will be full of inspiring ideas that the MDT can implement in their own units.
The event is free and open to everyone, including clinicians, nurses, technicians, managers, trainees and anyone interested in climate action in gastroenterology.
