Welcome to the BSG Undergraduates page where you can find out more about gastroenterology and hepatology as a career, how to get involved in the Society whilst at medical school, relevant events and resources, and details on how you can become a member of the BSG. If you are considering a career in gastroenterology, you are in the right place!
Medical students who are interested in Gastroenterology are welcome to join the Society free of charge. Membership will provide access to educational events, bursaries, speaker suggestions, networking opportunities and lots more.
BSG Undergraduate Membership
Medical students who are interested in Gastroenterology are welcomed to join the Society free of charge.
Membership will provide access to educational events as well as other relevant information on our specialism. Membership will also allow medical students to apply for bursaries to attend the BSG Annual meeting, as well as covering up to £500 of travel expenses to attend.
The BSG will be able to assist with speakers for your university events, judges for essay prizes, networking, and opportunities to assist on research projects and audits.
Conditions
- Applications will require proof of study (image of your student ID) from your current university and will be reviewed by the BSG Membership Secretary
- During your time at medical school, your membership will have to be renewed annually on 31st July
- When you finish at medical school, you can continue to be a taster member of the BSG at a cost of £24 a year
How to apply?
- Fill out the registration form below with your details and make sure to submit an image of your student ID.
- Once you click "submit" on the form below, you will be directed to the Undergraduate Membership page. From here, add 1x membership and "purchase" it for free by following the checkout and filling in your details.
- Once you have completed the purchase process you will be sent confirmation of your membership and a Welcome Email.

Useful Resources
Bursaries
We offer a range of bursaries for travel to attend BSG LIVE, as well as elective placements. We support medical students wanting to do placements abroad in the gastroenterology and hepatology fields. The elective bursaries run in the autumn of every year. The travel bursaries cover the cost of attending our annual BSG LIVE conference and are initiated around April time.
