Prof John Leeds

Dr John Leeds is a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Pancreaticobiliary Physician and Advanced Endoscopist at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University. His clinical and research interests focus on pancreaticobiliary disease, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
Dr Leeds has published extensively in pancreaticobiliary medicine and advanced endoscopy, leads NIHR-supported research, and is recognised nationally for his contributions to clinical research and innovation. He has played a key role in developing multicentre research collaborations within the UK and is committed to advancing evidence-based practice and supporting the next generation of clinical researchers.
Dr Leeds serves as Chair of the BSG Research Committee for 2026–2028, where he leads the Society's work to promote high-quality gastrointestinal research, foster collaboration and support research opportunities across the gastroenterology community.
