Dr Mohamed Shiha
BSG Elected Trainee Councillor, June 2026 – 2029
Dr Mohamed Shiha is a Gastroenterology Specialist Registrar at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and a clinical researcher with specialist interests in coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal endoscopy. He completed his PhD at the University of Sheffield, where his research focused on improving the diagnosis and management of coeliac disease.
Dr Shiha has received national recognition for his research, becoming the first gastroenterologist to be awarded the prestigious Society of Apothecaries' Prize for his work on the 'no-biopsy' approach to diagnosing coeliac disease. Alongside his academic achievements, he is actively involved in teaching, research and service improvement, with a commitment to advancing evidence-based practice and improving patient care.
As BSG Elected Trainee Councillor for the 2026–2029 term, Dr Shiha will represent the interests of gastroenterology trainees on Council, working closely with the BSG Trainees Committee and wider Society to support education, professional development and the future gastroenterology workforce across the UK.
