Dr Mary McStay
QI Lead, Deputy Chair of Clinical Services committee
Dr Mary McStay is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, based at Colchester Hospital. She has over 20 years' experience as a consultant in district general hospitals, where she has led clinical services, introduced new models of care and trained both medical and non-medical practitioners. Her specialist interests include neuroendocrine tumours (NETs), capsule endoscopy and bowel cancer screening endoscopy.
Dr McStay established dedicated NET services and the Essex Patient Support Group, and through multidisciplinary collaboration helped develop a regional peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) service for patients with neuroendocrine tumours. She is actively involved in clinical research as a principal investigator on multiple studies and has a longstanding commitment to quality improvement and service development.
As BSG Quality Improvement Lead and Deputy Chair of the Clinical Services Committee for 2026–2028, Dr McStay leads the Society's work to improve the quality and safety of gastroenterology services, championing innovation, best practice and high-quality patient care across the UK.
