BSG Workforce Lead, June 2026 - 2029

Dr Louise Scovell is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Ipswich Hospital, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, where she is Clinical Site Lead for Gastroenterology and leads the Upper GI Cancer and Nutrition services. She has a particular interest in medical education, workforce development and delivering high-quality gastroenterology services. Throughout her career she has been actively involved in regional and national initiatives supporting training, recruitment and service improvement, with a focus on building a sustainable workforce for the future.

As BSG Workforce Lead for the period November 2025 to June 2028, Dr Scovell provides strategic leadership on workforce issues affecting the specialty. Working with Council, committees and external stakeholders, she leads initiatives to strengthen recruitment, retention and professional development, helping to ensure the gastroenterology workforce is equipped to meet the evolving needs of patients and the NHS.
