BSG Research Scholars Programme

Supporting gastrointestinal and liver research is one of the key charitable objectives of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG).  It is well recognised that research active institutions deliver higher quality and safer care. Hence it is the goal of the BSG to support integration of research into clinical care. It is recognised that a significant proportion of research support from BSG members comes through voluntary activity outside of their job plans. It is also recognised that main research activity and interested BSG members including early career researchers, allied health care professionals, and clinicians from non-academic centres may not have access to develop their research ideas and potential to substantial grants.

The BSG is committed to actively and openly supporting and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) at all levels.  The 2021-2024 BSG Research Strategy aims to support the untapped potential for research participation among members by offering the infrastructure and initial support to those who wish to progress their research ideas while practicing as front-line health care professionals delivering care. The initiation of the BSG Research Scholars Programme is one of the key components of this strategy.

To apply for the Research Grant, please prepare for the following questions:

  • Outline commitment to integrated clinical research in gastroenterology and hepatology
  • Highlight previous clinical research and participation in previous grants
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Planned collaborations and research interests
  • Requirements for support or training if successful
  • Outline research proposal summarising aims, background, previous work, research plan, support, collaborations and conflicts of interest
  • How your proposal aligns with BSG research themes (check criteria document)
  • Statement of support from Head of Department/Director/Service Lead with signature

Read the full criteria here.

Applications are now open and will close at midnight on Wednesday 30th October 2024. Please fill out the application form below.

If you have any questions, please contact the BSG Research and International Committees Support Officer Meherin Aklas at [email protected] or our Research Committees Support Team at [email protected].
