We are delighted to announce Professor Colin Rees as the new President Elect of the BSG, with his term set to be from 2022 to 2024.
Colin Rees is Professor of Gastroenterology at Newcastle University and an Honorary Consultant at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust. He is a National Institute for Health Research Senior Investigator and his research interests include endoscopy and colorectal cancer (CRC) screening, prevention and early diagnosis (COLO-SPEED). He has led many large endoscopy studies recruiting around 15,000 patients, and believes the UK should be a world leader in endoscopy and CRC research.
Colin was BSG Vice President of Endoscopy from 2015-17 and established the BSG Endoscopy Quality Improvement Programme (EQIP). He has a strong interest in patient reported experience measures, and led the development of the Newcastle ENDOPREM. Colin has held a Newcastle United season ticket for 30 years supporting them through thin and thin, though he believes brighter days may lie ahead.
Colin has provided the following statement: “I am delighted to be appointed as president elect of the BSG. I have worked with BSG in a number of roles and found it one of the most rewarding organisations to work with. BSG is an outstanding organisation doing its utmost to lead BSG members in delivering the best possible GI and Liver care and it will be an honour to work alongside Andy Veitch as the current president and then to lead the society in two years’ time. Delivery of GI and liver care currently faces many challenges and I look forward to working with the BSG team to help our members address those challenges.”
