BSG Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Professor Emad El-Omar
As Editor-in-Chief of Gut, one of the most influential journals in the field since 2010, he has not only elevated the publication to unprecedented heights but also fostered a community of learning, collaboration, and academic rigour. His departure from this role in December marks the end of an era for Gut, but his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire the next generation of gastroenterologists.
Prof Colin Rees, President of the British Society of Gastroenterology, says:

"When people talk about the best doctors, the best scientists, or the best people, rarely do they talk about people in which all three facets occur in the same person. Except this is Professor El-Omar (or Emad to me). He truly embodies all three in one person and represents the very best in medicine. Supremely accomplished, yet so humble. He carries a great deal of responsibility but makes it seem like light work. He has immense power and influence, yet he possesses such integrity. He works so hard yet is the very best family man and friend. I feel honoured to have worked with Emad as Education Editor for Gut, and I am fortunate to have received his mentorship, support, guidance, kindness, friendship, and more. I would not have succeeded without him. He is the very best of us all: a true legend in gastroenterology, and as a man and as a person. I hope he gets some rest after stepping down as Editor-in-Chief— he deserves it, having taken Gut to huge new heights. I know he will miss the 'extra child' he adopted in the form of Gut when he leaves, but #TeamGUT will miss Emad even more.
