Undergraduate Elective Bursary
Applications for undergraduate electives are now open until 5pm on Friday 28th November 2025.
An elective period of study can be the highlight of a medical student’s study and can bring enormous benefits for a successful future career in your chosen specialty.
The BSG is delighted to be able to offer a number of bursaries of up to £500 each, recognising that undertaking an elective has additional costs for the student. The bursary could cover expenses such as:
- Additional accommodation and travel costs
- The administration fee charged by institutions in organising the elective
- Visa and immunisation costs for electives abroad
Applications will be judged anonymously by a panel of judges appointed by the BSG and considered under the following criteria:
- Relevance to Gastroenterology or Hepatology
- Defined learning objectives delivering benefits to the student
- Support from the learning institution
- General quality of application
Please note you must be an undergraduate member of the BSG in order to apply for a bursary.
