Endorsed Event: Online Colon Capsule Reading Course

14-07-2025 @ 09:00 - 22-09-2025 @ 11:05

Online

This event has been endorsed by the BSG Education Committee. As such BSG members will receive a discount on registration. The BSG is not involved in the organisation of this event, and interested delegates should contact the event organisers to find out further information.

This is a web based colon capsule reading course designed to train aspiring practitioners to perform and read full capsule studies reliably. The entire curriculum can be completed part time from work or home and it conforms to the standards recommended by European and American Authorities.

The web based training is especially suitable for GI/colorectal consultants and hospital specialists or nurses with endoscopy experience.

On registration, trainees will receive an interactive smartphone App that teaches patient preparation and image recognition of the most common disorders of the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. On completing the App based component, candidates will be provided with access to a browser-based simulator and a library of 20 full capsule videos, progressively graded in complexity – five easy formative cases, five moderate formative cases, five difficult formative cases, then five summative cases.

After an introductory webinar, trainees will be asked to view and report on three full cases weekly. Delegates’ reports will be submitted to a dashboard. Once each set of 5 cases have been reported, our experts, Owen Epstein, Professor of Gastroenterology at the Royal Free Hospital and capsule endoscopy CNS, Hansa Palmer, will evaluate the reports and rapidly provide written feedback on each. When appropriate, one-to-one online guidance will be provided. Exit criteria: for the summative assessment the expectation is that candidates recognise at least 90% of clinically significant pathologies. On satisfactory completion of all 20 cases, a certificate of completion will be awarded recognising that the candidate has fulfilled published training criteria.
