Congratulations to Prof Ewan Forrest; the new BSG Alcohol Lead

We are pleased to extend our congratulations to Prof Ewan Forrest, Consultant Physician and Hepatologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, NHS GGC, and Honorary Professor at University of Glasgow, who is the new BSG Alcohol Lead.

Prof Forrest will act as the lead and champion for the BSG on Alcohol, Alcohol-related harm and Alcohol-related liver disease by representing the BSG on the Alcohol Health Alliance, responding and providing input into the BSG, AHA and national documents, representing the BSG and AHA in the media, and coordinating alcohol policy and treatment services for the UK, as well as collaborating with the Alcohol and Liver Leads in all 4 home nations.

Prof Forrest is the Hepatology Clinical Lead for NHS Research Scotland which involves the oversight and coordination of Hepatology research in Scotland, Chair of the Alcohol Harms Group, Alcohol Drugs Partnership, Glasgow City Council involving understanding the many aspects of alcohol-related harm: health, social, criminal justice, as well as the Chair of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Acute Alcohol Management Group addressing the management of alcohol problems in acute hospitals. He is also a Scottish Health Action on Alcohol Problems Steering Group member; a health advocacy group in Scotland which has driven forward minimum unit alcohol pricing amongst other measures to reduce alcohol harms, and an ALERT Audit Steering Group member; a project which will shed light upon the performance of UK hospitals in managing alcohol-related liver disease.

Sheffield consultant wins international award for irritable bowel syndrome work

Dr Imran Aziz, honorary consultant gastroenterologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and senior clinical lecturer at the University of Sheffield, was presented with the Rome Foundation Academic Fellowship in recognition of his exceptional scientific research and clinical impact in gastroenterology services.
