Governance
The role of the Board of Trustees is to ensure good governance with the rules of the Charity Commission. The Board of Trustees of the BSG comprises both medical and lay trustees.
The Executive group is responsible for the day to day running of the Society supported by the BSG Office while the role of elected council members is to ensure good governance and to ensure that members’ views are considered in any decisions. The Council is assisted by our five higher committees to achieve its goals.
Positions within BSG committees are filled through an election, or for senior officer posts, through competitive interviews.

Higher Committees
The higher committees of the BSG are focused on the charitable objectives of the BSG. From 2021, every Higher Committee Chair now has a deputy chair who will succeed them, to ensure a consistent handover of work. The post holder will spend two years as Deputy Chair, then two years as Committee Chair.
Section Committees
Our section committees are elected by the membership of that section to represent them. They drive the work of the sections and put on educational events across the year.  They also develop part of the programme at the Annual Conference each year, identifying topics of value and inviting speakers.
