High quality colonoscopy is crucial to ensure relevant pathology is detected. Previous work has shown that colonoscopy quality varies nationally. In this masterclass video, Dr Laura Neilson discusses the importance of lesion detection and adenoma detection rate (ADR) in the context of quality colonoscopy. This video goes ‘back to basics’ and describes some simple, evidence-based measures to maximise lesion detection rate and therefore improve colonoscopy quality.
Dr Laura Jane Neilson is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and associate clinical lecturer at Newcastle University. She is co-chair of the Northern Region Endoscopy Group and is an elected member of the BSG Endoscopy Committee. Dr Neilson has active research interests in colonoscopy quality and patient experience of endoscopy and developed the first endoscopy patient reported experience measure, the Newcastle ENDOPREM, which is used internationally and is being adapted for related procedures.
