Annual Meeting Bursaries

The Annual Meeting Travel Bursary and Annual Meeting Research Abstract Bursary are for attending BSG LIVE'24 on 17th - 20th June 2024 in Birmingham.

Annual Meeting Travel Bursary

The BSG Education Committee invites BSG members including nurses, trainees, and undergraduates in any area of gastroenterology to apply for 1 of 40 travel bursaries. Of the 40, 20 are available to undergraduates with the rest reserved for nurses and trainees.

Each bursary of up to £500 is funded by the BSG and is intended to reimburse the costs of registration, travel and/or accommodation. Other costs (meals, poster preparation, visas etc.) will not be supported. Please note that priority will be given to those attending the full conference.

Successful applicants: bursaries will be paid after the relevant meeting on submission of your expense claim and a brief report outlining what you felt was most valuable about attending the conference, what you enjoyed the most, and what you learned that you could bring back to your daily work. You must be a BSG member to apply for a bursary.

Criteria

Trainees: It is envisaged that trainees would have a poster or oral presentation or be co-chairing a session at the annual meeting to be eligible for a bursary. Trainees can also produce a Web Education article with guidance from their consultant in order to qualify for a bursary. An example of a Trainee Education article is provided here. Please contact education@bsg.org.uk to express an interest in submitting an article.

Nurses: It is envisaged that nurses would have an abstract presented OR contribute to Nurse Education on the BSG Education platform. An example of nurse Education articles is provided here. Please contact education@bsg.org.uk to express an interest in submitting an article.

Annual Meeting Research Abstract Bursary

The BSG Research Committee is offering 10 travel bursaries for delegates who would find it financially difficult to attend BSG LIVE'24 to present their accepted abstract(s), available to trainees, nurses/AHPs, and overseas delegates.

Each bursary of up to £500 is funded by the BSG and in order to qualify, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

  • be listed as the presenting author of the submitted abstract
  • actually present the abstract at the meeting
  • be a resident and work outside of the United Kingdom if an overseas delegate
  • be unable to afford to attend the meeting without the travel bursary
  • be a BSG member

Applicants should upload a short statement using the below form explaining why they would find it difficult to attend without being funded.
