Terms and Conditions of Membership
Joining as a new member of the BSG
If you would like to join the BSG, please go to https://www.bsg.org.uk/ where you will see the different levels of membership available. Applications from any healthcare professional or scientist with an interest in gastroenterology and/or hepatology are invited. Go to “Membership” and select the most appropriate membership category dependent on your professional status and click on “Add to Order”. If you are unsure what the most appropriate membership category is for you, please contact the membership team at [email protected] who will be happy to advise you.
Once added, go to your basket and click on “Proceed to Checkout”. This will open up an application form which must be completed in full online. You will also be asked to set up a password which will enable you to log in to your account. Once your membership is paid you will be sent a membership number. Please keep a note of your membership number as you will need it when you register for reduced fees for the Annual meeting and other events.
Payment of fees
All applicants are required to pay the appropriate annual subscription upon joining the BSG. All applications will be reviewed to ensure the applicant has been assigned to the correct membership category. Where an incorrect membership category has been selected, the BSG will advise you accordingly. Your details will be amended and you will be required to pay the correct subscription.
All fees are payable to the Society in pounds sterling. Direct debit is our preferred payment method, but you can also pay by debit or credit card. You can go into your account and change your payment preferences at any time.
Cancelling your new membership with BSG
You may cancel your application with 10 working days of receipt of our confirmation and you will receive a full refund of fees paid. To cancel your application, please log in to your account and cancel your subscription.
If you take out a membership prior to the annual meeting and attend the annual meeting at members rate, you will not be eligible for a refund even within the 10 working days.
BSG/ESGE dual membership option
You can now take out a dual membership of both the BSG and the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) (www.esge.com). BSG consultant members will be entitled to a 23% reduction on an individual ESGE subscription. BSG Trainees may take out an ESGE Trainee Membership for 2 years via the ESGE website. After 2 years, they will liable to the full individual member rate so should transfer to the BSG/ESGE Dual Membership.
Dual BSG/ESGE membership will provide additional ESGE benefits.
Members are required to renew their membership each year. For members who pay by direct debit this will be collected automatically and you will be advised of the date of collection in advance. For those who pay by credit or debit card, you will be advised of the need to renew 30 days before your renewal date. This will be followed by a reminder on the renewal date. If payment has not been received within 14 days of the renewal date, your membership will lapse and access to member benefits will cease. If a member then decides to re-join the BSG, they will be charged the 12-month rate and their membership subscription will run annually in accordance to the date of re-joining.
It is the member’s responsibility to keep the BSG informed of any change in their personal details or professional status. You can change or update your details by logging in to your online account. You will be able to change your subscription category here. The BSG will update your member category and subscription in accordance with the entry criteria. If you wish to make any changes to your membership and subscription, please contact us a minimum of four weeks before your renewal date to allow sufficient time for amendments to take place. This is particularly important where payments are collected by Direct Debit.
Cancellations and Refund Policy
Membership is on an annual basis and no refunds will be given to members who resign during the year other than within the 10 working days cooling-off period. If you wish to cancel your BSG membership you can do so by logging into your account at any time. If you pay by direct debit, please remember to cancel your direct debit mandate with your bank at the same time.
Joining to get preferential rates for the Annual Meeting and other events
One of the important member benefits is a significant discount on the fee for attending the BSG Annual Meeting and other BSG endorsed events. In order to take advantage of this benefit, you must be a member at the time of the booking the event. This means you must join the BSG and pay your subscription before booking a place at the meeting. You will need your membership number to get the discounted rate.
If you either cancel or do not renew your membership after booking a place at a BSG event (such as the BSG Annual Meeting or BSG Endoscopy Live) where you paid the member rate, you will be asked to pay the difference between the member and non-member rate. We will not guarantee your place at the event until full payment has been received.
The BSG takes data protection very seriously. We will respect your preferences on data usage. Your preferences can be update online via the members’ area. You can also unsubscribe from BSG emails at any time using the link at the bottom of our emails.
