Gastroenterology success in NIHR CRN/RCP awards
We are proud to announce, and celebrate, the success of colleagues in Gastroenterology field in last month’s NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN) and Royal College of Physicians (the College) Awards, which recognise outstanding contributions of NHS consultants and trainees to clinical research. Applicants were required to outline their contribution to the leadership of NIHR CRN Portfolio studies focusing on:
- how they demonstrate clinical leadership enabling their organisation to increase its participation in clinical studies
- how they engaged with patients to inform them of new opportunities to participate in clinical research
- their contribution to successful delivery of clinical research studies, with a particular emphasis on industry (commercial contract) studies
The Gastroenterology Specialty group performed exceptionally well, winning three awards in the following categories:
Dr Sree Subramanian - Consultant Gastroenterologist, Honorary Senior Lecturer and North West Coast Gastroenterology CRN Specialty Lead
Dr Jonathan Segal - Specialist Registrar in Gastroenterology, London Northwest University Healthcare
Naaventhan Palaniyappan - Specialist Registrar in Gastroenterology, Nottingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
Gastroenterology National Specialty Group Lead, Professor Mark Hull said:
“Congratulations to these Award winners, who, with many colleagues in Gastroenterology throughout the UK, play a critical role in delivering clinical research in gastrointestinal diseases. I am particularly pleased to see two of our trainees recognised. The future of clinical research in our Specialty is bright with future research leaders coming through our trainee research networks.
