A vaccine has been developed that could be used in patients with Crohn's disease, and phase 1 trials are planned to start at the end of 2016, with phase 2 trials in Crohn's patients to follow in 2017. There has been extensive publicity, particularly in social media around the potential that a vaccine has as a 'cure for Crohn's disease'. As yet this is unproven.

Patients have understandably been keen to have PCR testing for MAP, and knowing that they have the infection, have sought treatment to eradicate it pending availability of the vaccine.
