Norgine Pharmaceuticals have made provision for 5 bursaries to be made available to assist trainees to attend the forthcoming BASL Annual Meeting in York.

Each bursary will cover the winning trainees’ conference registration fees, reasonable travel costs, accommodation expenses (2 nights) and one evening meal.  Norgine Pharmaceuticals, on behalf of the winning trainees, will arrange all aspects of the above.  A minimum requirement is that Trainees must attend all days of the conference.

Applications are invited from specialty trainees in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology, who are members of either the BSG or BASL.  Trainees must hold a national training number in gastroenterology or be in a LAT post and must be pre CCST at the time of the BASL conference (19th September 2018).  Trainees who have been granted another bursary to attend BASL 2016/ 2017 are not eligible to apply as are trainees who received as BASL bursary for the BSG annual conference in June 2016/ 2017/2018.

There will be a maximum of 5 bursaries available.

How to apply
Applicants will need to complete the formal Application Form for travel bursaries for BASL 2018.

As part of the application form applicants will need to outline how they meet the criteria for registration at the forthcoming BASL conference 2018 and how the conference will benefit themselves and others in their future career.

Applicants need to submit their application form via email to Bonita Cummings ( by the application deadline of 5pm Friday 10th August 2018 to be accepted for review by the review panel.

Applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their completed application form.

Review Process and Accepting your Award
Following review of all applications fulfilling the above criteria, applicants will be notified by 24th August 2018 as to whether their application has been successful.  The judging panel’s decision is final and judges will not enter into correspondence regarding the final decision.

If any of the winning applicants fail to formally accept their award by the deadline of 31st August 2018, those awards will then be offered to other applicants who form a reserve list. Those applicants on the reserve list will be informed on 3rd September 2018  as to whether they are currently being offered a place and will have until the deadline of 7th September 2018 to formally accept their award in writing or via email.

Requirements of Accepting a Bursary Award
Following formal acceptance of their award, award winners are committed to attending the BASL Annual Meeting 2019.
Norgine and its affiliates may publicly disclose (e.g. on company websites) details of its support of the bursary scheme including any relevant disclosures requested by law. Award winners will be sent an email from Norgine and will be asked to sign an agreement to disclose the value of the bursary. Award winners must either disclose the bursary as a personal transfer of value or as an aggregated figure. Norgine cannot sponsor anyone who refuses either of these two options.

In the event of exceptional unforeseen circumstances leading to an award winner determining that he or she is no longer able to attend the meeting, they must contact X immediately to cancel their scholarship award.  There will be a reserve list of trainees and under these circumstances, the next trainee on the list will be offered the bursary.
