Biographical Info
I am Professor of Medicine at Teesside University and Consultant Gastroenterologist at Darlington Memorial and Bishop Auckland Hospitals in County Durham. I graduated from the University of Delhi with a Presidential Gold Medal and then completed my postgraduate training with a M.D. in Internal Medicine and D.M. Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. I came to the UK as a Commonwealth Research Fellow to work with Professor Derek Jewell at Oxford University. My post fellowship Gastroenterology training in the UK was at the University of Oxford and the University College London Hospitals, where I trained with Prof Stuart Bloom and Laurence Lovat. I was appointed as a Consultant in Co. Durham in 2003 and Professor of Medicine at Teesside University in 2019. My clinical research interests are in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Oesophageal diseases, Barrett’s oesophagus and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. I am a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinician Investigator and am involved in several national and international clinical trials at County Durham. I have held academic appointments at Durham University and currently hold a tenured Chair in Medicine at the School of Health and Life Sciences at Teesside University for education and clinical research. Previously, I was a faculty of the School of Medicine and Health at Durham University.    I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, American Gastroenterology Association Fellow and a life member of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. I have been a recipient of the British Society of Gastroenterology Endoscopy Advanced Endoscopy travelling fellowship to Charleston (2008) and Tokyo (2010). I am an elected member of the Oesophageal Section, the IBD Section and the Clinical Research Group for IBD at the British Society of Gastroenterology. I chair the Eosinophilic Oesophagitis Guideline Group of the BSG and was appointed as the Deputy Chair of the Education Committee of the BSG in 2021, for a 4 year tenure, I have over 80 publications in peer reviewed journals.
