Dr Philip Smith is a Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool Hospital being appointed in October 2018, having trained in London. His specialist interests include IBD, intestinal failure and transition and is an NIHR Research Scholar in the North West Coast CRN and Chair of the Mersey Gut Club. He is a member of the BSG IBD and AYP committee sections and has written and contributed to national guidelines in transition and IBD. Dr Smith is also Digital and Education Editor of Gut, and Associate Editor of Frontline Gastroenterology after being Trainee Editor in the past. He is the past Chair of the BSG trainees’ section and a previous BSG President’s Medal Winner. He is a trustee of Guts UK, CICRA and IBD Passport and a patient with Crohn’s disease himself. Dr Smith is happy to be contacted via mail, email, phone, social media (@DrPhilipJSmith) and even carrier pigeon (!) if he can help BSG members (of any type) in any way possible. It is a great honour to be elected to the BSG council and I hope to represent members well and make them proud of the society.
