New IBD UK report: Crohn’s and Colitis Care in the UK: The Hidden Cost and a Vision for Change
A new report published by the IBD UK alliance, of which the BSG is a member, sets out the quality of IBD care based on a unique and comprehensive assessment by both patients and services against the IBD Standards 2019.
Revealing high levels of emergency care and a need for more proactive and preventative multidisciplinary care, no services anywhere in the UK were providing a complete IBD multidisciplinary team, as recommended by the IBD Standards.
The report highlights best practice and builds on strategic partnership work over a number of years to bring a concerted focus to quality improvement in IBD care. The report sets out a range of key recommendations to improve the care provided to IBD patients. IBD UK are calling for greater recognition of IBD as a priority by governments across the four nations of the UK and a defined strategy over the next 5 years.
