Role

The International Secretary will chair and lead the BSG International Committee and oversee the implementation of the BSG international strategy. The officer holder will be a full voting member of BSG Council and will work through Council and the President to drive the ongoing establishment of productive partnerships internationally so that patients and professionals can benefit from UK best practice and reciprocal links and exchanges are maintained.


Description/Main Objectives

  • Chair and lead the BSG International committee
  • Co-ordinate and promote BSG international activities as agreed by the Strategy and report back to Council twice yearly
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate an integrated approach to international activities and initiatives with other BSG committees and the membership
  • Establish, with agreement, joint working arrangements with other Societies / groups to further the strategic aims of the International strategy
  • Oversee the BSG International grants programme

Main Duties

  • Chair International committee meetings (frequency at discretion of Chair and Committee) and attend four meetings a year of BSG Council
  • Lead, with the support of the international committee, the organisation of the International symposium of the Annual BSG meeting or other relevant symposia, events or meetings
  • Enact and review the BSG International Strategy, including responsibility for overall delivery against the specific work streams
  • Co-ordinate and contribute actively to information on International activities via the BSG newsletters and website and directly with other BSG members/committees/groups undertaking international activities in the specialty
  • Seek out and promote joint educational/clinical/training/research activities with other GI societies or institutions globally
  • Lead the evaluation process for the Society’s annual International grant awards, ensuring best value for members funds

 

Admin Elements

  • Respond and communicate via letters and or emails for all activities that fall under the remit of the International Secretary and International committee. Contributions to web and social media as appropriate (facilitated by BSG Office)

General

  • To communicate professionally, effectively and accurately (verbally and in written form) both internally and externally to BSG stakeholders/ partners

Academic Achievements
 

Higher degree/ qualification(s) and a member of the BSG from any category or sub-speciality

Experience of international healthcare systems

Experience

Working in and chairing committees.

Track record in Teaching, Education, Training or Clinical & Research

Exposure to International activities for BSG or other recognised organisations.

BSG Membership and Experience

Must have been a BSG member for at least 5 years

Must have actively participated in BSG Committees / groups / networks or in BSG affiliated projects during the 3 years prior to application

Media training

IT Skills
 

Use of computers, e mails, documents and power point

Understanding of online and social media communication
