Clinical Research Fellow in Hepatology

Focus: Hepatology
Start date:
Duration: Three Years

The successful candidate will undertake a three-year Research Fellowship with Dr Prakash Ramachandran and Professor Jonathan Fallowfield within the Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh. The Fellow will be encouraged to work towards obtaining a PhD higher research degree during this time.

The post-holder will establish a prospective cohort study of patients with compensated liver cirrhosis of varying aetiologies, with the aim of identifying predictive biomarkers which better stratify patients and identify those who are at greatest risk of disease progression and decompensation. The Fellow will focus on studying cirrhosis associated immune dysfunction (CAID) in this cohort and will be trained in a broad range of cutting-edge techniques including multiparameter flow cytometry and cell sorting, single-cell RNA-sequencing, confocal microscopy and bioinformatic data analysis approaches.

Ultimately, in addition to obtaining a broad training in clinical and laboratory research, the Fellow will generate new biological insights into the natural history of liver disease which can subsequently be developed into novel approaches to better risk stratify patients.
