ESPGHAN GI Advice Guides on Neurological Impairment in Children

ESPGHAN would like to introduce three new advice guides relating to the treatment and management of children with neurological impairment (NI). As part of a series on NI, all 3 guides should be read alongside each other. These are abridged versions of clinical papers, designed to make them easier to read and use: short, visual and practical.

  • The first advice guide discusses the common gastrointestinal problems in children with neurological impairments (NI), including common problems contributing to feeding difficulties, oropharyngeal dysfunction (OPD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and constipation. Click here to view the guide in full.
  • The second advice guide looks at the dietetic management of children with neurological impairments (NI), including type of diet, whey-based formulas, enteral tube feeding modality, which type of tube to use, jejunal feeding and nissen fundoplication. Click here to view the guide in full.
  • The third advice guide looks at recommendations for the nutritional management of children with neurological impairment (NI), including nutritional and energy intake requirements, requirements and recommendations for protein and fluids and micronutrients, and recommendations for nutritional assessment.
