BSG Programme Committee Toolkit
Welcome to the BSG Programme Committee. Chaired by the Senior Secretary and supported by the Secretary, the purpose of the Programme Committee is to shape the programme for the BSG Annual Conference “BSG LIVE” (June 2022) and BSG Campus (November 2022).
This online toolkit will highlight the key responsibilities involved in being a representative of your section at the Programme Committee as well as key contacts, timelines, and resources.
We hope you will find this online toolkit useful. If you have any questions, please contact the BSG office or our conference partners, TFI Lodestar, whose details are listed below.
Thank you for supporting the BSG in delivering these important events. They are hugely valuable to our members, and your contribution is critical to our success.

What to expect
Each BSG committee leading a session(s) at the BSG Annual Meeting (BSG LIVE) or BSG Campus must send a minimum of one representative from their committee to the Programme Committee meeting which takes place three times a year. The representative can be any member of the committee, including the Chair. We understand the pressures of delivering content for two meetings, therefore we recommend nominating separate Education and Programme Committee reps.
It is the committee’s representative’s responsibility to:
- Attend all Programme Committee meetings OR send an alternative rep in place of them if they are unable to attend.
- If the committee rep changes or is unable to attend a meeting, we kindly ask that they inform the BSG office (see contact details below) and advise who’ll be fulfilling their role in their place.
- Lead on shaping the content of their session(s) at BSG LIVE and BSG Campus including confirming speakers.
- Always consider the equality & diversity of speakers and chairs when shaping the content of their session(s) at the BSG LIVE and BSG Campus.
- Liaise with the BSG Nurses Association Committee to ensure nurses are represented in either a speaking or chairing capacity in their session(s).
- Ensure that international speakers attending BSG LIVE are also nominated for a Meet the Expert breakfast session and considered as a co-chair or with alternative input to other sessions where feasible.
- Liaise with the BSG’s conference organisers (TFI Lodestar) about the details of their session(s) at the BSG LIVE and BSG Campus including sharing speakers’ contact information.
- Ensure TFI Lodestar is kept up to date with any changes to their session(s) including speaker dropouts.
- Communicate key actions and dates back to their section such as early bird deadlines, abstract deadlines/actions, prizes deadlines/actions, and deadlines to submit final programme details to TFI Lodestar.
- Declare any conflicts of interest to the BSG by completing the COI form upon joining the Programme Committee. Please click here to complete the COI form if you have not done so already.
About BSG Live and BSG Campus
The BSG annual meeting, now known as “BSG LIVE” typically consists of a Masterclass day on the Monday followed by 2.75 days of conference content. Each session lasts 1.5 hours and is typically followed by a break. On the full days of the conference, there will be 4 slots in the day where 6 sessions will run concurrently.
For preparation purposes, the sections are responsible for the sessions listed below. Content should be mindful of previous years’ talks and be varied and of interest to a broad audience.
This year, free paper sessions should contain at least 6 oral abstracts and the other sessions should include a further 1-2 abstracts. If you would prefer to evenly space your abstracts throughout all your sessions, then please do so, as long as the equivalent number has been accommodated and it is made clear at the PC meeting.
Abstracts within the programme should be allocated 12 minutes (9 for speaking and 3 for questions).
