Trainee IMT Representative and Foundation Representative positions

IMT Representative

The IMT Representative role is an excellent opportunity for future gastroenterology and hepatology trainees to represent the voice of internal medicine trainees in this national committee.

The role includes:

  • Attending committee meetings (4 per annum), where you will learn about the role of the BSG trainees section and offer the IMT perspective
  • Assisting with the organisation of our national events, particularly the Taster course in Gastroenterology aimed at IMT, foundation, and student doctors
  • Representing IMT trainees views in the BSG Trainees Section

Applicants should be enthusiastic about gastroenterology and keen to represent IMT doctors.

There are 2 IMT representative members on the Trainees Committee. Each is appointed for a 2 year period or the remainder of their IMT post if they have less than 2 years.

Applications will require a letter of support from a consultant, and will be reviewed by the BSG Trainees Section.

Foundation Representative

The Foundation Representative role is an excellent opportunity for future gastroenterology and hepatology trainees to represent the voice of foundation trainees in this national committee. The Foundation Representative is a new post which we hope will help the BSG better support Foundation Doctors and their interest in gastroenterology and hepatology.

The role includes:

  • Attending committee meetings (4 per annum), where you will learn about the role of the BSG Trainees Section and have an opportunity to offer the foundation trainees’ perspective
  • Assisting with the organisation of our national events particularly the Taster course in Gastroenterology aimed at IMT, foundation, and student doctors
  • Representing foundation trainees views in the BSG Trainees Section
  • Liaising with medical students to support their activities

Applicants should be enthusiastic about gastroenterology and keen to represent foundation doctors.

There will be 2 foundation representative members on the Trainees Committee. Each is appointed for a 2 year period or until they begin IMT if they have less than 2 years left. Applications are accepted from trainees who have completed their foundation training but not yet taken up an IMT post.

Applications will require a letter of support from a consultant, and will be reviewed by the BSG Trainees Section. As this is a new post, the length and role of the post may change, but will be discussed with the successful applicants should this happen.

Both roles will open on Tuesday 7th June 2022 and the deadline for applications is Thursday 7th July 2022.

Dr James Kennedy CMT Rep 2019-2020:

“In terms of what the role has involved, this year I’ve attended committee meetings, helped out as faculty on the BSG Taster Weekend, and helped start the BSG Trainees Section podcast. As a budding gastroenterology trainee, being on the Section has been a fantastic insight into the breadth a career in the specialty can offer, what the trainee experience is like now (and what it might be like in the future), and into the many ways the BSG supports trainees and those wishing to enter the specialty.

It confirmed my wish to be a gastroenterologist and allowed me to meet a group of highly motivated and dynamic trainees. Specifically for the CMT/IMT role, I saw it as a link between the BSG and pre-SpR trainees considering applying, so especially promoting the Taster Weekend and any other ways trainees can gain experience in the field.”
