National Oesophago-Gastric Cancer Audit: First Annual Report

We are pleased to present the first Annual Report of the National Oesophago-gastric Cancer Audit. The report identifies the improvements in patient care since the transformation of oesophago-gastric cancer services in England and Wales but also highlights areas in which further improvements are required. We hope you will find the recommendations of particular interest.

Variations in the provision of services across the Cancer Networks have been identified and the audit will now examine the extent to which these differences influence patterns of care and patient outcomes. Prospective data collection is well underway but, in order to gain a true national picture, it is vital that all trusts submit data on all of their oesophago-gastric cancer patients. We strongly urge all English and Welsh trusts that have yet to start participating in this stage of the Audit to begin doing so soon.

Finally, we would like to thank all colleagues who are already actively participating.
