Gastroduodenal Section Annual Report 2011
The Gastroduodenal Section held a successful symposium at the 2011 BSG Annual Meeting entitled 'Management of difficult dyspepsia'. The symposium was introduced by Dr N Trudgill and was then divided into two sections, the first discussing four clinical scenarios in which patients had evidence of gastroduodenal pathology at endoscopy (presented by Profs K McColl, M Pritchard, J Atherton and Dr A Goddard) and the second discussing three scenarios in which the endoscopy was normal (presented by Pros O Epstein, R Spiller and M Fox). The symposium concluded with a state-of-the-art-lecture on 'Functional dyspepsia' presented by Prof M Simren from Gothenburg, Sweden. The symposium was held in the main hall and attendance was excellent with approximately 250 attendees. It was chaired by Prof E El-Omar and Prof DM Pritchard.
The session of free papers at the 2011 BSG Annual Meeting was chaired by Prof E El-Omar and Prof DM Pritchard. 6 abstracts were presented and the session was reasonably well attended (25 members). The talks were of a high standard and generated good discussion. The poster round was conducted by Dr I Beales and Dr P Phull.
The Gastroduodenal Section has arranged a DDF symposium at the 2012 Meeting entitled 'Management of gastric bleeding.' It will discuss the management of a number of difficult clinical conditions and also the role of other specialists including radiologists, surgeons and haematologists. It will conclude with a state of the art lecture on 'Peptic ulcer haemorrhage' to be delivered by Prof J Sung (Hong Kong).
We welcome feedback and ideas from all section members and from others in the BSG.
Emad El Omar, Chairman
Mark Pritchard, Secretary
