Spotlight on Hepatitis

To mark World Hepatitis Day (28 July) the NIHR Clinical Research Network has launched "Spotlight on Hepatitis" - an online resource highlighting recent breakthroughs in Hepatitis C research which are leading to better treatments for hepatitis C patients.

The online resource includes information on a revolutionary treatment approach to Hepatitis C. A new generation of oral drugs with minimal side effects have been developed which block the virus and stop it from replicating. Published results of the recent Turquoise-II trial showed that one such drug cured more than 90% of patients of hepatitis C within 12 weeks.

As well as reading interviews with patients describing how taking part in ground-breaking research studies has changed their lives, visitors can also learn how collaboration between researchers and the life-sciences industry is helping patients to gain access to cutting-edge treatments sooner.
