BSG Professor awarded for his outstanding work with Coeliac sufferers
BSG member Professor David Sanders was awarded the Healthcare Professional Award for 2010 by Coeliac UK at the charity's annual conference in Edinburgh.
Professor Sanders received the award following nominations from his patients at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. One patient said "he is a most approachable doctor and he always has time for me, not rushing through a consultation, no matter what time of the day the appointment."
Professor Sanders, who has also been selected as one of the ASNEMGE (Association of National European and Mediterranean Societies of Gastroenterology) Rising Stars of 2010 said:
"I was delighted but most importantly, very grateful to all the patients and colleagues who have supported me throughout the last 12 years. I look forward to continuing to provide a dedicated clinic and also to carry on with research projects to aid in better diagnosis of the condition."
BSG President, Professor Jon Rhodes noted "This is a real recognition of Professor Sanders' work in terms of patient care as well as accomplishments in a very important area of research. It's important to recognise our stars as they continue to make vital contributions in the field of gastroenterology."
