GI Disease Workshop Lusaka, Zambia 2011

Themes in African Gastroenterology

9th-13th September 2011

A workshop was held in Lusaka in September, 2011, hosted by the Zambian Association for Gastroenterology and Nutrition and the University of Zambia School of Medicine, and funded by the British Society of Gastroenterology and with a contribution from the British Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition. The objective was to deepen the knowledge base of physicians, surgeons and paediatricians with an interest in disorders of the digestive tract, and to encourage and stimulate junior doctors and nurses to join the specialty. Gastroenterology is an under-resourced specialty in Africa, despite the huge burden of diarrhoea, hepatitis and non-communicable digestive disorders.
