Description
Advanced Laparoscopic Biliary Surgery
With the improvements in laparoscopic instrumentation and visualisation, combined with the results from randomised trials showing the safety and efficacy of laparosopic management of common bile duct stones, it is likely that there will be an increase in this technique over the next few years. This course is aimed at those surgeons who are interested in obtaining additional information as to how to set up a laparoscopic bile duct exploration service, the variety of techniques that can be used (trans-cystic and trans-bile duct) and the instrumentation required. Theatre nurses involved in laparoscopic surgery are also welcome.
The course will involve transmission of live operating pictures in high definition from an integrated operating theatre performed by the visiting expert, Dr Les Nathanson from Brisbane Australia, as well as the local faculty, involving intra-operative ultrasonography and choledochoscopy. There will also be several breakout workshops during the course for delegates to obtain experience in laparoscopic intra-operative cholangiography, choledochotomy, bile duct exploration and suturing on simulated models. Additional breakout sessions will be aimed at ensuring delegates can get the best out of their laparoscopic instrumentation, including intra-operative ultrasonography and endoscopy.
Location: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, 51 Little France Crescent, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, EH16 4SA.
