Vitamin D: Mechanisms of Action in Health and Disease

This meeting is being jointly hosted by Barts and The London Medical School and the MRC Asthma UK Centre in Allergic Mechanisms of Asthma, and has been organised by Chris Griffiths, Kasia Hawrylowicz and Adrian Martineau.

The programme focuses on immunomodualtory actions of vitamin D on human health; in particular, Dr Julian Walters will be speaking about vitamin D and the gut. The full programme will include talks by Luciano Adorini (Vitamin D receptor agonists in the treatment of inflammatory prostatic diseases), Barbara Boucher (Vitamin D and type 2 diabetes mellitus), Margherita Cantorna (Vitamin D and autoimmune disease), George Ebers (Vitamin D and multiple sclerosis), Catherine Hawrylowicz (Vitamin D, regulatory T cells and allergic disease), Elina Hyppönen (Epidemiological insights into actions of vitamin D), myself (Vitamin D and tuberculosis), Chantal Mathieu (Vitamin D and type 1 diabetes mellitus), Jürgen Schauber (Vitamin D and innate immunity in the skin) and Julian Walters (vitamin D and the gut). The event will be chaired by Chris Griffiths (Centre for Health Sciences, Barts and The London Medical School).
