Reducing HCAIs (Healthcare Associated Infections) 2013 – Improving Clinical Practice, the 5th Annual National Conference and Exhibition, will once again be held at the prestigious Brewery Conference Centre at the heart of London on Wednesday 13th February 2013.

On 13th January 2012, Health Minister Simon Burns announced the new year's ambitions for the NHS in the reduction of healthcare associated infections. Each Trust was set their own objective which, if delivered, could result in a further 29 per cent reduction in MRSA bloodstream infection and an 18 per cent reduction in Clostridium difficile infections by April 2013.

But as highlighted by the data, Bloodstream Infections (bacteraemia) account for around seven per cent of all healthcare associated infections, with only four per cent caused by MRSA. Other infections such as urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, surgical site infections, skin and soft tissue infections where MRSA may be involved are not included in these numbers.

Improving Clinical Practice will examine the challenges of SSIs, taking a deeper look at the extent of the problems, including surveillance, education and reporting issues, whilst highlighting the contribution that healthcare providers can make in the reduction of SSIs.
