Lower GI Update

A half-day gastroenterology seminar for GPs, focusing on lower gastrointestinal disorders, with expert advice on primary care hot topics such as the management of irritable bowel syndrome.

Attend this seminar to gain 3 CPD hours

Patients with gastroenterological conditions are estimated to make up 10% of a GP’s workload. With changes in the NHS bringing pressure to reduce referral rates and keep prescribing costs in check, effective management of lower GI disorders will be more important than ever.

Why Attend?

  • Equip yourself with the latest evidence-based treatments and self-care options for effective management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Ensure you identify and act on lower GI red flag symptoms while avoiding over-investigation
  • Establish effective referral strategies and influence the GP commissioning process for patients with lower GI disorders

Speakers will focus on:

  • Referral tips for red flag symptoms and organic disease
  • Established treatment options for patients with IBS
  • Effective care pathways for patients with lower GI disorders
  • The impact of the Health Bill and NHS reforms
  • The latest clinical evidence on probiotics

Expert speakers will advise on the effective management of persistent, functional lower GI disorders within the primary care setting and ensure that you rule out red flag symptoms and instigate appropriate referrals.

Expert Speakers:

  • Dr Jamie Dalrymple GP in Norwich, chair of the Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology and member of the NICE guideline group on IBS
  • Professor Pali Hungin professor of primary care and general practice, and dean of medicine, Durham University
  • Professor Peter Whorwell professor of medicine and gastroenterology, University of Manchester Medical School
  • Professor Roger Jones emeritus professor of general practice, King’s College London and editor, British Journal of General Practice
