Barts and the London-UEGF Post Graduate Diploma and MSc (Distance Learning) in Gastroenterology (Full time or part time)
The Centre for Digestive diseases at Barts and the London School of Medicine, Queen Mary, University of London in collaboration with the UEGF invites applications for its Post Graduate Diploma (Distance Learning) in Gastroenterology. This course is suitable for trainees and consultants already in the field wishing to establish a more theoretical basis of their gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary knowledge but also for those seeking an entry into the field. The course has been approved by the British Society of Gastroenterology Education Committee and provides clinicians with theoretical and clinically applied aspects of their discipline with a focus on the relevant basic sciences and research techniques.
The Centre for Digestive Diseases is one of the largest academic and clinical departments in this field in the UK and includes professors in Clinical Gastroenterology, GI Genetics, GI Paediatrics, GI Surgery, GI Neurogastroenterology, GI Pharmacology and GI Physiology all of whom contribute to the teaching. The majority of the teaching is provided by clinical academics who are both research and clinically active.
Those successful in the PG Diploma are able to transfer to the MSc once they have identified and planned a project (and local supervisor) which have to be approved by the leads for the research module.
The Post Graduate Diploma runs from October until April, and includes six compulsory modules. Each module lasts 3 or 6 weeks with on average about 10 hours of teaching per week accessed via the internet. The part time option requires taking the modules over two years, module 1 has to be completed in the first year.
Each module is assessed by a written exam and an essay.

Module 2: Liver and Pancreatic Diseases
Module 3: Adult GI Diseases: Luminal Diseases
Module 4: Neurogastroenterology: Advanced Functional GI diseases
Module 5: Paediatric and Adolescent GI, Liver and Nutritional Diseases, including GI Infections
Module 6: Introduction to Endoscopy
Module 7 : Research
