Invitation to participate in a study investigating the use of SeHCAT in diagnosing Bile Acid Malabsorption

In order to address aspects of NICE Diagnostic Guidance 7 (issued November 2012), King's Technology Evaluation Centre (KiTEC) have been commissioned by NICE to undertake a prospective survey to investigate the use of the SeHCAT test in the NHS.

The survey, which will be run in collaboration with the British Nuclear Medicine Society (BNMS), aims to capture day-to-day practice including the clinical indications for a SeHCAT test, the results of the SeHCAT test, and the clinical outcome after the test. We hope that the results of the survey will provide more robust data to inform clinical practice, assist standardisation of SeHCAT test protocols and develop other diagnostic approaches to bile acid malabsorption.

The survey is composed of various forms to be completed by the gastroenterologist and by the nuclear medicine staff involved in the patient care pathway, at the appropriate moment within the course of care. Each form is short and will take between 1 and 3 minutes to complete.

This survey has been endorsed as a national audit and is open to all NHS hospital trusts that perform SeHCAT testing.
