The Rotherham IBD Management Software was created by Prof KD Bardhan to provide a clinical management and research tool for the busy IBD clinic. It has been developed and supported by Ferring Pharmaceuticals as a service to Gastroenterology.
The IBD Management Software can hold a wide range of information if required to support local clinical activity, including demographics, smoking and family history, visit management and a detailed prescribing history. All accessible via a simple set of user friendly icons.
Clinical data is entered manually, preferably as part of the clinic process but if required administratively from GP letter or similar documents. The new PAS interface allows users to automatically extract demographics from the local PAS system directly into the IBD software and minimise the initial data entry.
There is extensive reporting available, ranging from on screen patient summaries and patient contact listings, including current medications, to GP letters and analytical reports. The analytical reports for example can be used to monitor immunosuppression and support colonic surveillance on individuals or groups. For more comprehensive, adhoc reporting, users can request support from the helpline or use a dedicated reporting tool such as Crystal Reports where there is already an extensive suite of reports available off the shelf.
A National Database User Group has been established to both guide the development of the software and undertake national, multi-site, research projects using an agreed minimum dataset. Pilot data from this group was published at the 2006 BSG meeting and a combined publication involving about 30 sites, is planned for 2007.
