Midland Gastroenterological Nurses Society
The MGNS is a thriving, well established regional group covering the Midlands area of the UK. We aim to advance nursing within the specialities of gastroenterology and endoscopy, as well as fostering friendship and networking amongst those with an interest in this area. To achieve this we hold biannual meetings, usually in June and November. These meetings are normally held simultaneously with those of our medical colleagues. A trade exhibition is held at lunchtime, as well as a well regarded poster session.
The MGNS also provides sponsorship for members wishing to undertake educational or training courses. Additionally we provide an opportunity for members to present for the first time in the safety of our “new speaker slot” available at every meeting.
Midland Gastroenterological Society
The Midland Gastroenterological Society (MGS) is a large specialist society spanning two Regional and Strategic Authorities, from Hereford in the south-west, through Birmingham to Nottingham and Derby in the north-east. Meetings are held twice a year in June and November, and original research and audit data are presented in oral plenary style and poster presentations. The society encompasses all Gastroenterological specialties including Gastroenterology, gastroenterological surgery, radiology, Pathology, and the Midland gastroenterological Nursing Society. We are keen for Specialist Trainees to join the society. Prizes are awarded for the best oral and poster presentations. The June meeting includes an invited National or International speaker. For the November meeting applications are invited for the MGS research prize presentation.
The MGS is closely affiliated with the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG). Along with the BSG, the MGS sponsor one of three Advanced International Endoscopy fellowships in Japan under the Directorship of Dr Takahisa Matsuda, National Cancer Centre, Tokyo. Consultant members of the Society are welcome to apply to the MGS for the fellowship. For trainees, the MGS sponsors small research grants of £1,000 and applications are welcome. Further information is attached to this web-page.
